Mike's news
I returned from Madagascar a few weeks ago and have been busy ploughing through the thousands of images captured. The trip was very successful with great photography - wonderful lemurs, chameleon and many other reptiles and invertebrates. I also spent time travelling off the beaten track, photographing village life and agriculture that hasn't changes in hundreds of years - it was fascinating. Madagascar is truly a stunning location for photography, whatever your interest. Have a look at my 'Latest Images' pages for a selection of images from the trip.
Now back at home in North Norfolk and thousands of Pink-footed Geese that over-winter here. It's a great spectacle at sunset on a winter's afternoon watching skeins of geese flighting in to spend the night in the relative safety on the marshes. With a big moon over the last few days, they have been moving from one feeding ground to another well into the night - the sound of their calls echoing through the blackness of the night.
A couple of frosty days recently have found me in a hide at my winter bird-feeding station - with jays a plenty and a male sparrowhawk being a regular visitor, drinking and bathing in my pond. And not only the local bird population has found it attractive - a female roe deer has developed a taste for bird food - see her licking seed from a bird feeder in my latest images pages.
One of the best things about my job is working with like-minded photographers, sharing ideas and being inspired by their enthusiasm. My photography courses have been a great success in 2011, and one-to-one tuition is ever popular. Plans are well under way for more of the same ... with some new ideas for 2012 - keep an eye on my Workshops pages!
Best wishes for the New Year.
Mike
